Dale Kinder

Dale KinderA maintenance worker checking on a lighted cross on the roof of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church Thursday afternoon fell to his death when the lift supporting him tipped over.

Dale Kinder, 47, of Redwood City, was using a hydraulic lift about 1:15 p.m. to examine a burned-out light atop the church at 950 Santa Cruz Ave., said Gary Hagen, the church's business manager.

Hagen said Kinder was in the lift's bucket 25 to 30 feet in the air when the lift somehow became overbalanced and tipped over. "He was in the bucket when it crashed to the ground," Hagen said.

Hagen said Kinder had worked for the church nearly 20 years.

Kinder is survived by his wife, Vicky Kinder; a daughter, Heather Kinder of Redwood City: a son, Nathan Graham Kinder of Burlingame; a brother, Richard Kinder of Menlo Park; and a sister, Katherine de la Grange of Boulder Creek.

I remember when Dale was into the surfboard building craze. Had dinner at his home a couple times and remember his mom was a good cook. Nice guy.

Dale's back yard and my back yard shared a common fence and there was a gate between the yards. He and I did boy scouts and other activities. We went on a group boy scout trip touring the US for a month and alsl attending the boy scout Jamboree in Valley Forge PA.

It was unfortuante that his death was the result of an accident when he was trying helpout at his church.
