I remember Andy from our time together in Mr Kelly's Lenkurt Lab electronics class. Andy was a really good guy and fun to work with. Andy was better than I was on laying out and making an aluminum sheet metal chassis, part of the course requirement. Once you punched your holes using the rotary turret chassis punch, you were committed. Andy told me I had something wrong on my layout but I was 100% positive he was wrong and punched my holes. He was right and I incurred the wrath of Mr Kelly as I put my chassis in the scrap bin and started over. I think Andy pursued a career as an electronics tech. He left us way too soon. RIP Andy, you won't be forgotten.

You will all recall that Sequoia was one of the few schools that had Boxing as one of its PE segments.  The training sessions were gruelling ... for instance rotating your arms at 90 degrees away from your body for 5 minutes or more without a break.  It about made me cry.   Arms that burned due to such a simple exercise.

That's when I met Andy.  He and I were about the same size so we were pitted against one another for the practice rounds.  Then came the dreaded "real" fighting match.  But Andy and I made a deal.  We would fake fight, landing casual blows but looking like we knew what we were doing in order to make an acceptable grade.  But I forget whether it was Andy or me.  One of us landed a good punch on the other ... and then the other on the first.  And then it became full out combat.  Three one minute rounds of  "I'm gonna get you sucker!"

Suffice it to say that the fight developed great mutual respect.  And friendship.

I was shocked to hear that he had died.  He was a respected friend.  Respect gained by understanding his power beyond that of his brain.

It's not fair and I'm so sorry to know he went down for the count ........
