Jim and I were transfer students in September 1965 and were randomly assigned as lab partners in Miss Buchanan's chemisty class. We immediatley bonded over our passion for motorcycles and music. Jim had a Honda 90, I had a Yamaha 80, and we were lucky to hit 60 MPH downhill. We enjoyed many, many fun rides, only as far as San Francisco, never on a freeway. In the middle of our junior year, Jim met a lovely young lady, Ginger Wold, who was his neighbor on Farm Hill Boulevard. She was a student at San Carlos High, and they fell in love almost immediately, and they married upon Jim's discharge from the Army.

Jim and I both joined the military in early 1968, and he trained to be a combat medic at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. By a rather amazing co-incidence, we had a brief chance encounter at some helicopter landing zone in the I Corps region of Vietnam. After Jim's discharge and marriage, our families would get togeter now and then in Felton or San Jose. Ginger was working for Fairchild during that time, and in 1993 her job took her and Jim to Texas. We never did see each other again, but we occasionally corresponded about Jim's love of the blues and his continued excellence on the guitar and harmonica. Jim had a good life, good friends, and a loving family. He is missed and fondly remembered.

Beautifully written, George. A touching tribute to a classmate and friend. It fills me with sadness to see the In Memorium page becoming longer and longer...

Thanks George for an informative and fond remembrance. I wonder what earned Jim the Bronze Star medal?

Here is the photo from James' obituary.  For some reason it didn't attach, though you can see it if you lick on the link to the obituary.  I am posting it so everyone can see it easily.  It's a lovely photo.

Thank you for your kind messages. I will share them with Ginger. Here are two photos that show the real Jim--one when leaving for duty, and a more recent one from 2018.

George, these photos are great and show Jim's personality with that great big smile. Please share this and all the classmates' comments about Jim. So glad music was a big part of his life and that he had a good long marriage with his "high school sweetheart". Thanks so much for sharing adult memories of a great guy.
