Philip L. Terry

Rita Matthews sent this information about the death of Phil Terry. Their son, Ryan Terry, wrote a lovely tribute to his father. Thinking of you, Rita, Ryan, and Phil's family.

Survived By: his son, Ryan Terry, his wife and 3 step children

My son, Ryan, shared with me that his father, Philip L. Terry, passed away from Cancer on July 31, 2022. Phil, our 1967 Class President, was a Sequoia athlete and friend to many of our classmates. He is survived by his wife, his son, Ryan L. Terry, and three step-children. Ryan sent the following information to me regarding his Dad: "Phil Terry spent his retirement years doing what he enjoyed. His hobbies were golf and following his favorite team, the San Francisco 49ers. He served 8 years as a volunteer golf instructor with the First Tee, a community based, non-profit golf program for youth. He spent 5 years in the US Navy and retired from the wholesale electrical distribution industry. In the last 5 years, his body began to fail him. Housebound, unable to drive, and with debilitating pain, he lived with rapidly advancing cancer and no treatment in his last year. My Dad has left his body here on earth. His pain is over; he was ready to go. As per his request, we did not have a funeral. His ashes will be scattered at a location of his choice. May the wings of destiny carry him aloft to dance with the stars."

Phil and I were best buddies in Jr High, playing sports and hanging out at each others homes. When we went to Sequioa we hung together as Goodwin (Kennedy) kids against the loaded deck of Mckinley folks.

Freshman football and learning about the world of student government, parties and girls. I shall remember Phil's stedfast friendship, honesty and friendly nature. He was not so full of himself, that he could not be friends withs all kinds of people. He tried all kinds of differnet things and lived life to the fullest.

Rest in Peace old friend.

Good memories of his happy countenance.  Fitting that he would spend so many years volunteering.  It's sorrowful to know of his final struggle.  Wishing Phil a peaceful rest.
